This is going to be a tough edit — so many pictures that I like. I feel like the story isn’t quite finished, but it doesn’t look like I’m going to be able to shoot more before the story publishes. That’s kind of a bummer, but I’m still glad I got to spend the time I’ve invested so far. And I suppose there is nothing stopping me from continuing to work on it after all is said and done. Maybe the multimedia portion can hold for later. Just thinking out loud here.

love the last shot here. what kind of multimedia are you talking? have you already gathered audio/video? shouldn’t take that long to produce a 1-2 minute piece…

I shot the reporter’s interview with him on video. Going to use the audio from that to go with the stills. Trying for a “One In Eight Million” vibe. The audio got kind of noisy when the place where we were doing the interview was suddenly swarmed with little kids, so I’m not sure what it’s going to sound like. Wanted to get nat sound from his swim, but didn’t get around to it.

I like doing slide shows, but when it comes down to it, they’re just as much work as video. I think slide shows are more visually satisfying though, don’t you? I’d like to incorporate this into a Flash presentation and show the trajectory of a typical English Channel attempt and have other interesting factoids. But there just isn’t enough time, and I’ve forgotten so much about Flash. If you don’t use it, you lose it.

I should add that the paper I work for is quite good, and they treat us well here. But I’m not fond of the web element, which in my opinion is often times a content dumping ground. You would not believe what we do during football season. It is insanity.
